Great Grandaughter of James Fenimore Cooper II. Frederick Waugh was a family friend of her great grandparents in Cooperstown, New York. Laura was influenced by paintings her family owns by Mr. Waugh. Part of her inspiration came from this early exposure to artists and those happy memories. Laura grew up in Louisiana on the Vermillion Bayou. Lights of tugboats and barges that she could see and hear from her bedroom window as they were traveling to the oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico were influential to her as well.
