(1927-1981). Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Jack Gray studied art at the Nova Scotia College of Art, and continued his education at the prestigious Montreal Museum of Fine Art. He established a reputation for excellent marine paintings. His work is featured in many museums, including the Mariners Museum in Newport News, Virginia; Peabody-Essex Museum, Salem, Massachusetts; the Museum of the City of New York and the U.S. Marine Corps Museum and the Huntington Hartford Museum in New York. He was an excellent sailor, which is reflected in his fishermen, boats, and the piers and buildings of the waterfront. |
