Barry Mason (British, b. 1947) is one of the most accomplished marine artists working in Great Britain today. Born at Seton at Devon, he spent his formative years studying painting at the Exeter College of Art, before turning to professional maritime painting. He has exhibited many times at the Royal Society of Marine Artists in London, and has had sell-out solo exhibitions in both London and Stockholm. Encompassing such subjects as the mighty clipper ships of the 19th Century racing on the high seas, turbulent naval battle scenes of the War of 1812, bustling River Thames scenes set in the 1880's, and schooners and fishing boats, his work is typified by a superb attention to detail, historical accuracy, and the atmosphere of a bygone age. In addition to being a painter, he is a deep sea fisherman. |
